Happy new year ... late

It has been a while since posting - first time on the train this new year. I've travelled but I've flown, so a wholly different experience. A very cold day - minus 3 when I left home; which made my causal assertion that a credit card would be an adequate windscreen scraper foolish in retrospect. I'm on the stopper strain which gets busy 2/3 of the way in and has "close" seats. This last aspect is reinforced by the chap sitting next to me who has spread out as much as he can - apparently his knees aren't allowed to get near to touching each other! Wednesday must be an office day, as the train is packed, but it may be to do with the fast train rarely stopping at what was a main station pre-pandemic. Half the plugs don't work on this train and the heating is patchy - but apparently we have a well funded railway system... I'm late back today, so I look forward to being on the fiest evening off peak train!

Town centre traffic

A fun start to my journey as its December so clearly the time to be doing nifty combos of roadworks and traffic light maintenance,  the effect of which, was to completely clog up the routes into the town centre. This meant a 15 mins journey at 715 became a 45 mins journey at 8. So rather than being on the faster and more accommodating 844, it's the slower 855. At least this time I am the one on the train coughing and unnerving fellow passengers- not covid, just a bustard of a sore throat. Its a cold but sunny day so we will see what it brings.

use it or lose it

So the unions have rightly said us it or lose it and they are right. The Greater Anglia schedule is further reduced today, so a stint on the platform in the chill air. As a result, the train is busier than it needs to be and people are standing from an hour out of our destination. Nothing too annoying on the train, apart from the usual seat blocking by someone who assumes possession is 9 tenths of the law when it comes to table seats. They have been paid back by their evebtual seat buddy being a Daily Mail reader 🤣. Another day, another dollar ...

Speaker phone calls

How about a bit of train etiquette? Not much to ask in my view. If you are on a train, wear headphones. Be it YouTube or a Teams call. No-one else needs to hear it. They aren't even expensive, a few quid off Amazon (moral issues with rampant consumerism aside). While we are on the subject, just having a conversation moderately loudly, that's roughly the same. When I am prime minister I'm making all trains quiet coaches.
